Description of ASCII files containing longitudes and latitudes of ocean drift tracks originating near the Farallon Islands on 2007 Jan 29 at 00:00 GMT. The data come from the OurOcean project at JPL. We downloaded data only for 00:00 GMT on 14 consecutive days (Jan 29 through Feb 11). We linearly interpolated these daily positions to get approximate position at intermediate times. The original model has higher time resolution. Filenames are of the form {lon|lat}_nnn.txt, indicating whether the file contains longitudes or latitudes and encoding the date in tenths of a day since 00:00 GMT on 2007 Jan 29. For example, lon_048.txt contains longitudes for drift tracks on day 4.8 (Feb 2 19:00), which is a time with DigitalGlobe, Ikonos, and ER-2 data. Each file contains 16 columns and 14 rows, corresponding to particles at 16 initial longitudes and 14 initial latitudes on day 0.0. The format of each row is 16f9.3. Plotting data from all the files for a particular row index and column index will yield a drift track for a single particle starting at one location. Some initial locations do not have valid data (-1.0) due to land or missing model data. For more information, contact Maria Nieto-Santisteban (nieto pha jhu edu) or Jeff Valenti (valenti stsci edu).
